The Process

Girl with violinMembers of the South African National Youth Orchestra include players from all communities and all provinces.  Our auditioning process is one of the things that set us apart from any other youth- and professional orchestra. Members are chosen purely on merit through two auditions, an anonymous recorded audition, adjudicated by instrument-specific specialists, and a live audition played behind-screen, in front of an expert auditioning panel.

How it works:

1. Recorded auditions are done in various centres across South Africa.

2. Recordings are numbered, and sent as anonymous auditions to specialists for adjudication.

3. Results from recorded auditions determine whether the candidate is accepted to attend Nationals 2012 programmes.

4. Successful candidates are auditioned live behind a screen on the first day of every course for placement in an orchestra.
