The National Youth Orchestra: Strings session will be held in Grahamstown with the kind support of the National Arts Festival. It is open to all young string players between the ages of 18-25, and is set to be an exhilarating, jam-packed week of advanced string playing and experience. Thirty-two string players will be selected based on our national recorded auditions in April. The orchestra will be conducted by Fredrik Burstedt and top string tutors will be at the course.
The National Youth Orchestra:Strings will also perform with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Richard Cock, for their concerts at the National Arts Festival, and will do three performances of their own in Grahamstown. This is an ideal opportunity to launch a professional career, experience what professional orchestral playing is all about, and learn about the fantastic world of string orchestras. You will be challenged with repertoire ranging from the baroque period to a pops programme. Further performances for this ensemble, including the annual Sasol National Youth Orchestra Concert, on 30 August.
